Flooring Choices for Your Basement Renovation
One of the more important aspects you need to consider for your basement renovation is the flooring. You may think that any floor is going to be great, but it’s important to remember that basements are much different than other parts of your Baltimore home.
At Trademark Construction, we will make sure you choose the right flooring for your basement. We wouldn’t want you to pick a floor that will eventually get damaged because of where you placed it. Basements are known to hold on to moisture due to being close to the ground. Also, unfortunately, basements flood most often in the home. It’s important to get a floor that can handle the moisture and if there ever was a flood, which it would be salvageable.
Types of Flooring for Your Basement Renovation
Vinyl
Vinyl comes in sheets and tiles, so you can pick which look you want for your basement. The sheet will give the floor a more streamlined look without showing seams. The tile will have obvious separation but comes in a variety of patterns and colors. You do need to be aware that the vinyl flooring, in tile form, will have seams and if water is left in its path long of enough, it can become damaged.
Luxury Vinyl
Another from of vinyl flooring appears to look and feel just like stone. This vinyl flooring is thicker than the previous and has a better insulation. This vinyl has more durability and can withstand more wear. The overall appeal is the look of a beautiful stone with a much more affordable material.
Plank Vinyl
This is considered a vinyl that appears to look just like hardwood. This flooring comes in planks instead of sheets. This floor also will be more insulated to help with the coolness that comes from being below surface level. Plank vinyl is also durable and looks expensive without being so.
Porcelain Tile with a Wood Look
This is a great option if you have always loved the look of wood floors, but yet are nervous because of humidity factor in Baltimore. There are many different styles of the wood look to go with all types of design ideas you have. This floor will take your basement appealing and safe from water damage since these tiles are waterproof.
Concrete
What you typically see in basements may not be a bad idea for your Baltimore home. Especially if your home already has a concrete floor in the basement. Concrete can be painted or sealed, depending on the look you are trying to achieve. Concrete is one of the hardest and most durable surfaces you can have for your basement. It doesn’t require much maintenance, and it doesn’t need a sub floor. Another downside to this floor is if you are going for a kids room, this floor can cause injury since it’s harder than most. Decide the purpose for your basement renovation before you decide on a floor.
Tile
Tile is the best of all worlds when it comes to basement renovation. Tile not only is water resistant, they also come in hundreds of styles. Tile is not considered an unfinished surface like concrete, If you are nervous that your basement will be too cold, install a heated floor underneath, so your basement and feet always stay warm and cozy.
